Ed Schneider
Ed
Schneider born, raised and schooled
in New York City, moved to Washington DC
after college and has lived in the heart
of the city ever since. He has a degree
in fine arts, a passion for art, architecture
and design, and an enormous appreciation
for DC’s distinctive neighborhoods.
Ed believes a home is an emotional, spiritual and personal
space, so he tries to serve as a personal shopper for
his buyer clients, tracking down and showing them only
properties that best suit their personalities and needs
so they don’t waste their time scouting places
that clearly do not suit them. And for his sellers,
he works up a well-focused price analysis and marketing
plan, then helps them fashion their properties into
the kind of spaces where others might find that special
vibe.
Since information is power, he arms all his clients
with the critical facts they need to make good decisions
and shepherds them through the settlement process with
humor and grace to make what can be a very trying period
go as smoothly as possible.
Ed began his professional life as a graphic designer
and ran his own design consulting firm for several
years. After a five-year stint art directing The
Washington Post Magazine, he set up and operated
a successful advertising agency where he honed his
marketing and sales skills by producing award-winning
advertising for national and local businesses. In addition,
he wrote occasional travel articles about some of the
world’s most exotic locales – like Cleveland,
Ocean City and Hershey, Pennsylvania. He also wrote
scripts for feature films, an exercise that led him
to start a literary agency that sold original screenplays
to reluctant Hollywood producers and studio big-wigs.
He lives with his wife in an Adams Morgan townhouse
which their cat graciously allows them to share, provided
they abide by her rules. Rule 1. Open cans. Rule 2.
Change litter. Rule 3. Provide affection on demand.
They work valiantly to live up to her expectations.
Life highlights:
• At six, won roller skates in a coloring
contest. Made major life decision to become a painter.
(A house painter.)
• At fifteen, won a cheap wristwatch doing the
lindy hop in TV dance contest. Watch later stolen by
losing couple. Gave up dream of ballroom dancing.
• Taught creative writing at American University.
Discovered adjunct pay stinks.
• Climbed ruins of Venetian fort and former leper
colony on islet of Spinalonga off Crete. Spectacular
view of Aegean.
• Stood by, baffled, as a Greek car rental clerk
attempted to explain the workings of an incomprehensible
gear shift that protruded from dashboard of Citroen “garbage
can.” Rented a Fiat instead.
• Got stuck on a hotel balcony in Nice with only
a glass of Champagne and a packet of peanuts. Vowed
never to close a sliding door again.
• Snowmobiled through Yellowstone. Ate a sandwich
by Old Faithful while Bison strolled by.
• Plowed through heavy surf on a Zodiac boat to
explore caves at Na Pali coast on Kawai. Thrilling.
• Motored on a small boat in heavy storm to see
puffins on the Treshnish Islands off northwest coast
of Scotland. Puffins are cute.
• Sailed on a three-masted schooner to the Galapagos
Islands. Snorkeled with sea lions and green sea turtles.
Iguanas are not cute.
• Became extremely minor producer on a feature
film set in New Mexico. Movie will be shot in Scotland(?!).
Oh, well, another chance to see puffins.
